The pig race was fun enough (but you must sit in first line to enjoy) and the apple cannon was the best (the compressed air canon shooting at targets was worth waiting in line for, I assure you). More than a farm, it is a theme park with old and noisy rides, and all kind of weird attractions. Geez.I must admit I had low expectations, but after a rather fun day in the farm I must say that is was worth the visit. God forbid anyone gets lost and tries to get help at The Mountain on any other days than Trade Days. We were so shocked at the attitude that we have no plans to return and see what a "charming" place The Mountain is, even after looking it and Trade Days up online. At this point my husband was getting perturbed with this man because he repeated multiple times that they weren't open except on "Trade Days." We got it the first time, even though we didn't know what Trade Days were. We were confused because of the sign saying "late night shopping." We said that to him and he told us there were no shops open except during "Trade Days." Well, not being from Texas, we didn't have any idea what he was talking about. Anyway, we were stopped by a gentleman who then promptly told us that if we didn't leave, the police frequently drive through and would arrest us if we didn't leave. As we were looking around for a place to park and trying to interpret signs that said no driving we were confused since there was clearly a driveway into this place. Not knowing anything about "The Mountain" it looked super cute and we wanted to explore it. We no longer have that hope and will not spend another dime on that end of canton again.ĭear reader I would like you to know that the majority of the "good" reviews on this site for the mountain, are posted by mountain shop owners!Īfter seeing a sign in one of the windows that says "Late night shopping" my husband and I decided to drive in. "The Mountain" used to be a fun and unique place that we always saw as a diamond in the rough, One day, we thought, was destined to become the crowning jewel in Canton, TX. I have personally been coming to the mountain for over 9 years and it seems that the only people the fire left are the ones with no business running a business. My wife had to go to Wal-Mart at 12:30 PM to buy toilet paper, as they had used up the ONE roll left in the room. The next day they were informed that they couldn't take their rented scooters up to their room, How is that even legal? Next they were refused a refund from Happy trails scooter rental. Again I reiterate, hotel staff drinking and driving golf carts. Once they were checked in they no longer saw the hotel staff, with the exception of seeing them later on at a place in the village and they were drinking. The rooms were moldy and still smelled of burnt plastic. There are virtually no shops left on the mountain, the ones that are seem to not want to act like shop owners anymore. In a sense it was but just not for my wife and company. We were also lead to believe that there was still a running golf cart taxi on the mountain. As I did not attend my wife's photos and video of this place utterly astounded me.įirst my wife and guests had to walk up a hill of rubble,(potholes don't do the images justice) then on to their rooms. I booked them a room at one of the little lodges there and were assured that the mountain was unaffected by the last fire. My wife and I go at least once a year, and we have stayed at different places over the years, so it was a great choice. We chose this spot because of how truly unique the mountain is.or was. I paid for my wife and 3 other clients to stay on "The Mountain" in canton TX. I have a business in Corpus Christi, I run the business and my wife does the social aspect of it. ![]() Reason 7: Did I mention Palm Cabanas, the Pie Shop & Fire Side Grill? ![]() Reason 6: The trolly that will take you from the base of the Mountain to Trade Days and the Civic Center every 20 minutes for only tips. Lots of great shops with everything from antiques to custom jewelery and clothes. Really good food at the restuarants (Fire Side is really good). ![]() ![]() (particularly the Palm Cabanas for us) Now check closely whether it says Bed & Breakfast or Bed & Bath. Reason 3: The Pie Shop seriously the best pies I've had in many years (Chess was my favorite but Coconut Cream, Apple & German Chocolate were very good). Like a small community that welcome all newcomers. Reason 1: While Canton (Trade Days and the town) seem to shut down at 5pm, The Mountain stores and restuarants stay open until 11pm Canton Trade Days are great and huge and exhausting but don't miss the nearby retreat called The Mountain.
